Creating an amazing experience that flows smoothly and reflects my clients' personalities requires many hours of planning and preparation. In addition to the 10+ hours I invest on the day of a wedding, it typically takes 10-20 hours to successfully plan a four- to six-hour event:

  • timeline and space/layout planning
  • meetings with bride/groom, vendors, and others
  • coordination with vendors, attendants, family, facility, etc.
  • music consultation, planning, and programming
  • preparing scripts for entrances, introductions, etc.
  • brainstorming and developing unique ideas for each client


IMPLEMENTATION

A typical five-hour wedding reception includes about two hours of dancing. In order for the entire evening to be successful, and for everyone to participate, the effective disc jockey/master of ceremonies will be working from before the first guest enters the venue until after the final note of the evening:

  • serve as event director, ensuring everyone is on the same script
  • create appropriate ambience (music, lighting, etc.) through cocktail hour/dinner
  • build rapport with guests to increase participation and enjoyment
  • prepare everyone who will be speaking and/or playing another key role
  • serve as master of ceremonies, making all introductions, keeping event on track
  • keep all guests interested and build the energy of the event as it progresses
  • use music programming/mixing skills to keep all ages on the dance floor

Whether you want your reception to feel very structured or, like some of my clients, more free flowing, it is imperative that you have someone taking all the necessary steps (before and during the event) to ensure "free flowing" does not mean "chaotic." I take great pride in understanding my clients' needs and ensuring the event reflects their personalities.
